Concrete Alberta Pavement Design Workshops 2026
It's official!
Concrete Alberta is excited to bring another round of Concrete Pavement Design Workshops to Alberta in February. Dates are confirmed for one-day sessions in Calgary February 11th and Edmonton February 12th.
Our facilitator for the sessions will be the Cement Association of Canada’s Senior Technical Director of Engineering, Mick Prieur.
Mick is a seasoned engineering professional with over 30 years of experience in civil and materials engineering, specializing in pavement design, concrete technology, and infrastructure rehabilitation. Mick provides expert guidance on cement and concrete products for transportation infrastructure, with a strong focus on promoting low-carbon concrete solutions and the Association’s Concrete Zero Action Plan. His technical expertise spans asphalt and concrete pavements, roller compacted concrete, engineered soils, and brownfield remediation, and he has developed software tools for pavement network analysis and life cycle cost optimization.
Throughout his career, Mick has held leadership roles at WSP Canada, Englobe Corp., and the Ready Mixed Concrete Association of Ontario, among others. He has led numerous high-profile projects across Canada, including forensic evaluations of pavement and concrete material failures, concrete mix design optimization, and large-scale municipal infrastructure rehabilitation. His work has supported clients such as Nova Scotia Public Works, Translink, Greater Toronto Airport Authority, Region of Waterloo, multiple counties, towns and cities in Ontario and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. Mick is also deeply involved in industry committees, including the Transportation Association of Canada (Construction, Pavements and Soils and Materials subcommittees) and Ontario Good Roads Association, where he has served as Chair and instructor for several courses relating to concrete.
In addition to his technical and leadership roles, Mick has contributed to research and development in concrete materials, authored publications, and lectured at universities. His professional development includes a PMP certification and complementing his engineering degree from Ryerson University (Toronto Metropolitan University). Mick is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Waterloo, Centre for Pavement and Transportation Technology (CPATT). Mick’s career reflects a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence in civil engineering.
These one-day seminars will run from 8:00 am to about 3:00 pm and include lunch and will cover concrete design details including jointing details overview and dowel and tie- bar use and their effect on concrete pavement design thickness. The closing sessions will provide participants with a walk through of the most commonly used pavement software sources.
The session in Edmonton will take place at Knelsen Sand and Gravel’s Winterburn office Training Facility. Parking is free at this location as well.
