SUMMARY:November 2020 ACI CSA Standards Concrete Field Testing Technician
DESCRIPTION:The New ACI CSA Standards Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification Program has been developed for the purpose of certifying concrete testing technicians who have demonstrated the knowledge and ability to perform\, properly\, the basic field tests on plastic concrete. With ever growing prevalence of the use of Self Consolidating Concrete (SCC) in the field\, this newly revised certification program now includes the test standard CSA A23.2-19C Slump flow of concrete.\n\n\n\nCertification of field test personnel by CSA International\, Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) or the ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1 (Newly revised and renamed ACI CSA Standards Concrete Field Testing Technician) Certification Program is a requirement of the CSA standard for concrete A23.1 Concrete materials and methods of concrete construction published by Canadian Standards Association (CSA).\n\n\n\nPlease note: This is not a training course. It is a certification program. Prior testing experience is required. Due to physical (social) distancing requirements mandated as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak\, the classroom review session that usually takes place the first day will be delivered virtually using Zoom conferencing. All participants will therefore need access to their own computer with high speed internet access to participate. Any preparation for the performance exam is the responsibility of the participant on their own. There will be limited facilities provided to practice or to perfect your performance technique. Also please be sure to study the workbook thoroughly prior to the virtual review session and exams!\n\n\n\nThe Review Session will be scheduled Monday November 16th from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. Though this part is not normally compulsory to attend\, it will be for this session so that everyone is very clear on all of the required procedures that will need to be maintained to complete the Written and Performance exams in a safe manner.\n\n\n\nThe Test Methods Practice Session will be held Monday November 16th afternoon from 1:30 PM onward at Rolling Mix Concrete Ltd 7209 Railway St SE\, Calgary\, AB in their shop building. Participants can drop their testing equipment at the shop and then park their vehicles in designated areas on Railway St or in the parking lot of the box store centre(Costco) next door. If weather permits\, we will conduct the session out of doors. But please bring your own test equipment and Covid-19 compliant PPE to practice with to minimize cross contamination. If you don't have a slump flow board there will be one for you to use on site.\n\n\n\nThe Written exam will be held Tuesday November 17th at 8:00 a.m. at the Glenmore Inn in the MacLeod Room located at 1000 Glenmore Court SE where proper social distancing can be maintained. Please be sure to bring a face mask and your own HB pencil and eraser as well as a calculator. Cell phones are not permitted for use in ACI written exams. No food or drink will be provided. You may bring a bottle of water. Please take any empty bottles with you when you leave.\n\n\n\nThe Performance Exam will follow the same day\, Tuesday November 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Rolling Mix Concrete Ltd 7209 Railway St SE\, Calgary\, AB in their shop building. If weather permits\, we will conduct the session out of doors. More details will be provided before the Performance Exam.\n\n\n\nEach participant must bring their own full set of concrete field test equipment which they will use to perform their exam. A detailed list of what must be included can be viewed here. Sharing of equipment or handling of any of the hosts provisions (i.e. a hose) will not be permitted.\n\n\n\nPPE will be the responsibility of the participant though there will be a very limited supply of extra masks and gloves should yours become inoperable at the time of the performance exam. Hand sanitizer will be available at both examination sites.\n\n\n\nA complete detailed description of how you will be expected to participate in both exams is located here. You must sign off on the Release at the bottom of this protocol and submit it to paul.masson@concretealberta.ca before you will be permitted to participate.
